Laura Curran, the Nassau County Executive, invited ASALI to the Holiday Cheer Citation Ceremony on December 9, 2021. Vice-chairs Iris Liu (3rd from the left) and Mitchell Jung (3rd from the right) received the certificate of appreciation at the office of Asian American Affairs.
Launched June 2020, ASALI's CSAP program increased voter turnout within the Chinese community on Long Island. Volunteers made phone calls in both Chinese and English to households, guiding them through the process of voter registration.
Iris Liu authored 5 publications in English and Chinese, regarding the American voting system while encouraging readers to take an active role in elections. In coordination with the Long Island Chinese American Association (LICAA), the articles garnered the attention of over 50,000 Chinese Americans, boosting Asian American voter turnout in the election of 2020
The certificate (bottom) is awarded to outstanding organizations that demonstrate excellence in community service.
On January 23rd, ASALI gathered at co-president Mitchell’s house to bake Lunar New Year-themed cookies for a cultural display at Manhasset Public Library. There were two types—yellow dragons and orange 福 bags. In Chinese culture, dragons symbolize power, good luck, strength, and health. The character “福” represents blessings, good luck, happiness, and the auspiciousness of Lunar New Year. ASALI hopes you had a good Lunar New Year :)
